Heather Beal is a published author and photographer, freelance journalist, and strategic communications consultant with 22  years of experience writing about architecture, sustainability, the arts, business and cultural trends, and all aspects of the built environment. As an Upper Midwest Human Rights Fellow, Heather will travel to Nairobi, Masalani, and Garissa to cover the work of Womankind-Kenya (WOKIKE) and hold two photography workshops with orphan girls residing at WOKIKE’s complex in Garissa.

Heather earned a B.A. degree in Economics from Carleton College, Northfield, MN; an M.A. degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; and professional certification in Integrative Creative Studies from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, MN.
